Excited Catholic Leaders Welcome New Pope Prevost

The Catholic Bishop of Würzburg Wagers on Prevost - Würzburg's Bishop placed wagers on Prevost

Empowered with a sense of sheer exhilaration, Bishop Franz Jung of Würzburg can't help but share his elation! "Damn straight, I'm thrilled!" he claimed in a Facebook video. "Prevost - he was the one I backed all along!" Qualified and readied for the position, the anticipation of his role is palpable. The speed of the decision, he remarks, stirred up a lot of unity amongst the cardinals. "Can you believe it? White smoke," he exclaimed, referencing the traditional Vatican signal of a new pope. indeed, the American cardinal Robert Francis Prevost had been elected as the newest pope of the Catholic Church.

Bishop Hanke of Eichstätt echoed Franz's excitement: "It's about time we've got someone new in the big chair - and a fellow with missionary experience under his belt, too!" This new innovator is part of the Augustinian order, whereas Hanke represents the Benedictine.

On the Mellow and Practical Pope

According to Hanke, he's known the current pope personally and finds him to be an exceptionally cool, down-to-earth, and practical individual. In his view, the pope will steer the Church's ship steadily through choppy waters.

Bishop Oster's Touching Tribute

Meanwhile, Bishop Stefan Oster of Passau took to Facebook to share a photo of himself with the current pope, captioning it, "At the last synod, I had the privilege to meet him as a deep, wise, spiritual, and prudent man. Here's to wishing him the best during his service!"

Papal Name Revealed

The newly elected pope has announced his choice of papal name: Pope Leo XIV, marking the first time that an American is pope and adopting the name of a previous pope from the 19th century, Pope Leo XIII. The conclave that led to his election began on May 7, 2025 and ended on May 8, 2025[1][2].

The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a regulation on the application of the principles of subsidiarity, as the new pope, Pope Leo XIV, seeks to address various issues in the Catholic Church. Bishop Hanke, a member of the Benedictine order, finds the recent election of Pope Leo XIV, a fellow from the Augustinian order, as a significant event. Despite their differences in orders, Hanke anticipates a cooperative relationship between them. The excitement and anticipation over Pope Leo XIV's leadership extend to sports, with some speculating about the potential implications for sports-betting regulations within the Church.
