WSV triumphantly revels in their substantial victory during the derby match
In a thrilling encounter, the WSV football team faced Velbert in a game marked by intense competition and exciting moments. The match, which began hectically, saw Celal Aydogan score the 1:0 lead just before half-time (45.+2).
Mid-way through the first half, Velbert gained momentum, with Kamo having a big chance in the 10th minute, hitting the post and missing the follow-up. WSV fans, undeterred, started a choreo after 13 minutes.
The game was not without its share of changes. Hans-Juraj Hartmann, Daki Kamo, and Toskiaki Miyamoto were granted playing permission, while Tyrala brought Fritz Kleiner on for the yellow-carded Fehr at half-time. Ronay Arabaci replaced Miyamoto in the 72nd minute, and Imas Sekaki and Henry Mertsch came on for Hartmann and Kamo in the 85th minute.
Unfortunately, seven players were absent from the game due to injuries and suspensions. Subaru Nishimura, Muhammed Bejdic, Kadi Atmaca, Semir Saric, Dominic Duncan, Lennard Wagemann, and Alessio Arambasic were all missing from the lineup.
Velbert presented Felix Herzenbruch, Beyhano Ametov, and Valon Zhushi, but their efforts were not enough to prevent Luyambula from preventing Goto from scoring (66') and Kleiner from scoring the 0:3 goal (78'). The game took a dramatic turn when Herzenbruch received a red card (40') for handling the ball.
The league continues on 9th August against SV Rödinghausen (2 PM), and WSV has a cup game against TSV Krefeld Bockum on 13th August at the Stadion am Zoo (7:30 PM). The league away game against Borussia Dortmund U23 is on 17th August (2 PM).
Before the two-week English break, WSV will play a friendly against 1. FC Wülfrath on 5th August (7:30 PM). Despite the challenges, the team showed resilience and determination, making for an exciting match against Velbert.
In the upcoming Champions League, WSV's football team may strive to emulate their resilient performance, aiming for a similar lead like Celal Aydogan's 1:0 against Velbert, given the European leagues are known for their intense competition. Felix Herzenbruch's sending off (40') against Velbert serves as a reminder for the team to avoid such incidents, as suspension absents could impact their upcoming games against teams like Borussia Dortmund U23 and SV Rödinghausen.
