WSOP Day 51: Concluding a Magnificent Poker Series in 2024

Poker Action Galore at the 2024 WSOP!

Just six months post the initial 99 live events at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) has wrapped up. The tournament was chock-full of poker excitement, from fresh bracelet winners to the triumphant return of poker veterans to their prime.

The curtain fell on the World Series of Poker main events on July 17, marking the 51st day of this extraordinary tournament and the ending of another summer of poker entertainment.

Here's a quick rundown!

The High Stakes Showdown – Event #81, Championship Round

On Day 51, the focus was on crowning the poker world champion. With only a couple of eliminations separating Niklas Astedt, Jordan Griff, and Jonathan Tamayo, the trio returned to the table, assured of winning at least $4 million.

After Astedt bowed out, Tamayo bested Griff in a nail-biting heads-up match, etching his name in poker lore. Catch the latest Main Event coverage from our dedicated PokerNews live reporters, or skip straight to the final day recap if you're in a hurry.

Lucky 7's No-Limit Hold 'em – Event #93

Michael Liang triumphed over Duc Nguyen in Event #93: $777 Lucky 7's No-Limit Hold'em. Liang had been down nine to one in chips, but he clawed his way to victory. After several second, third, and fifth-place finishes in previous bracelet events, this win marked Liang's first WSOP bracelet and increased his total tournament earnings to approximately $3.2 million.

Canadian Charm – Event #97, $3,000 6-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha

Alex Livingston, the second player to earn a bracelet this tournament, clinched victory in Event #97: $3,000 6-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha. Livingston outplayed Francisco Benitez in the heads-up match, pocketing $390,621 and solidifying his place in poker history. Prior to this event, Livingston had amassed eleven cashes but failed to make it to the final table. He considered this victory a "summer saver" and referred to his triumph over Benitez, a Uruguayan player, as a career milestone.

This win marked Livingston's third recorded victory, following his 2022 World Series of Poker $1,500 Seven Card Stud title and his $25,000 10-game Championship victory at the 2024 PokerGO Tour Mixed Games festival.

The Closer – Event #98, $1,500 The One Who Is Nearest

The second-to-last live tournament awarding bracelets was the 98th event: $1,500 The 2024 WSOP Closer. Ching Da Wu of Taiwan took home the trophy, defeating 3,214 opponents to claim the top prize of $525,500 and his inaugural bracelet. Wu became the fourth player from Taiwan to win a WSOP bracelet after vanquishing Mario Colavita of Italy. Despite his victory, Wu plans to continue working as a software developer in California and enjoying poker in his spare time.

Endgame – Event #99, $1,000 Super Turbo No-Limit Hold'em

The final chance for 1,544 hopefuls to snag some WSOP silverware came with Event #99: $1,000 Super Turbo No-Limit Hold'em. In a grueling one-day tournament featuring twenty-minute levels and small starting stacks in comparison to other tournaments, only one player survived – Aneris Adomkevicius of Lithuania. Adomkevicius' pocket sixes held strong against Mark Newhouse's jack-eight, sending the two-time WSOP Main Event ninth-place finisher packing in second place. With his first gold bracelet in hand, Adomkevicius pocketed $201,355.
