Glenn Foster's tragic demise after a police arrest in 2021 sparked a wrongful death lawsuit against the Pickens County Sheriff's Office and Pickens County. The lawsuit, which seeks compensation surpassing $75,000 US dollars, accused these entities of being responsible for Foster's untimely passing.
Foster, a former NFL player, perished in a medical facility in the northern region of Tuscaloosa, roughly two days after being apprehended by law enforcement. According to Reform police, Foster was arrested in Reform, Pickens County, following reckless driving incidents that officials reported to NOLA.com.
The lawsuit alleges that members of the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, the Pickens County Jail, and the county itself were involved in Foster's fatal incident. Seven charges are listed in the lawsuit, including excessive force, negligent training, supervision, and disciplinary measures, and violation of standard due process procedures.
Requesting comments on the lawsuit, CNN contacted the office of the Pickens County Sheriff and the county. Various claims related to wrongful death, unjustified use of force, and denial of basic human rights against Foster have emerged.
Sabrina Foster, Glenn's mother, voiced her feelings during a press conference, stating, "My son didn't have to die." She further added, "As a tax-paying society, if you're paying them to protect us, then they need to adhere to the law."
Foster's father revealed to CNN in 2021 that his son, who had played as a defensive lineman for the New Orleans Saints in 2013 and 2014, may have experienced a manic episode in the days preceding his arrest. In a phone conversation the day prior to his arrest, Foster was described as uncooperative and irrational without elaborating on the reasons behind this non-cooperation.
Alabama's law enforcement agency confirmed investigating Foster's death at the time, as CNN sought updates on the progress of the investigation.
