"10 Things I Still Can't Stand About Modern Romance": A New Chapter for "10 Things I Hate About You"
- bullshit
Work on new script underway for successor - Writing in progress for the sequel's draft.
The man behind the iconic 90s rom-com, "10 Things I Hate About You", Gil Junger (70), has dropped a bombshell: a damn sequel is on the way and it'll be a nod to the legendary Heath Ledger (1979-2008), who played the charismatic badass in the original flick.
Junger, who directed the 1999 teen comedy starring the fiery Julia Stiles (44) and Ledger, sat down with "People" to dish the deets. "10 Things I Hate About Dating" is in production with original producer, Andrew Lazar (59), serving as the first part of a trio, followed by "10 Things I Hate About Marriage" and "10 Things I Hate About Kids". Junger and Lazar are brewing some seriously intriguing ideas for this trilogy.
In the initial film, Kat Stratford's (Stiles) life got shaken up when the off-the-wall new student, Patrick Verona (Ledger), entered the scene. The new movie will take inspiration from Molière's play "Tartuffe" from 1666, a comedy, much like its predecessor's adaptation of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew".
The Return of a Legend (?)
The script for the sequel, co-penned by Naya Elle James, is still in its infancy, but Junger reveals he's hoping to work his magic with Stiles once more: "I'd fucking love to work with Julia again. She's a freakin' icon, man. Kat meant the world to so many young women. The character resonated with a power we can only aspire to."
As for Ledger, who left us too soon in 2008 at the age of 28, Junger is scheming a way to pay tribute to his memory: "Absolutely. It'd be a crime not to. He was the heart and soul of '10 Things'. I think finding a way to honor his memory will make this film something truly special."
