So, what can we expect as Pentecost approaches?Bjoern Alexander, a weather expert, shares some insights:

Initially, the severity of the weather situation will peak in certain regions on Wednesday, potentially increasing the odds of individual tornadoes. While the main danger of severe weather will then disperse, strong thunderstorms might still linger regionally until at least Pentecost Sunday. By Pentecost Monday, things should finally settle down.

Much of the country will enjoy a high-pressure influence on Wednesday with pleasant temperatures. However, the south, stirred by a frontal system, will remain muggy and, consequently, prone to thunderstorms. This is further intensified by the approaching cold front of Storm "Tim."

The polar-origin air from "Tim" collides with the warm air in the south and the Alpine region, creating an explosive mix, as mirrored in the temperatures on Wednesday.

Storm "Tim" will sweep through Western Europe or the British Isles with gusts of over 100 km/h. The north will see a maximum of 18 to 24 degrees on Wednesday, while temperatures in the south and east will reach 25 to just under 30 degrees, with some areas feeling exceedingly steamy.

Unfortunately, it will only be clear on Wednesday which regions will face the brunt of the thunderstorms. Southern regions like Bavaria, Thuringia, and Saxony, as well as areas in Switzerland, are most likely to bear the brunt of the storm.

Significant rainfall can cause flooding in these areas, as drainage and sewage systems struggle to cope with the sudden downpour. Adding to the danger, the weather models indicate the potential for heavy storms, even hurricane-force winds, as well as the possibility of large hail and individual tornadoes in the close vicinity of the heavy thunderstorms.

If severe weather were to ever hit a city like Munich, it's essential to remain vigilant, stay informed about the latest forecasts, and adhere to emergency guidelines.

By Thursday and Friday, the worst should be behind us, but we must still prepare for significant thunderstorms regionally. On the sunny side, temperatures in the southeast could reach up to 28°C on Friday.

As for the Whitsun weekend, intense thunderstorms are likely to persist, although we're still awaiting the finer details. Expect Saturday to feel warmer and humid, with temperatures ranging from 18 to 28°C. By Sunday, temperatures will cool down to 16 to 23°C.

Hopefully, Monday will see a reprieve, with showers and storms easing off and a friendly breeze sweeping in from the southwest.

In a nutshell, be prepared for a stormy Whitsun, with the potential for severe weather conditions in southern Germany, especially from the Alps and Lake Constance to the Bavarian Forest and the eastern mid-mountain range.

Stay safe and dry, folks!
