Get ready for some rollercoaster weather from Pentecost week through to Whit Monday! As we approach the holiday weekend, let's take a look at what's in store for our friends in Southern Germany.

What's Brewing in the Short Term?

While much of the country enjoys a respite under high-pressure influence, it's a different story in the south. A frontal system, or air mass boundary, is causing mugginess and, consequently, thunderstorm-prone conditions. This is further intensified by the approaching cold front of Storm "Tim" on Wednesday, which brings high-speed winds and frigid air.

Where's it Heading?

The northwest can expect temperatures of 18-24°C on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the south and east will see temperatures reaching 25-29°C, with some regions experiencing an oppressive heat and humidity that fuels the formation of severe thunderstorms.

Which Regions are Affected?

The south and southeast of the country, particularly Bavaria, Thuringia, and Saxony, face the highest risk of severe weather on Wednesday. However, as the day progresses, the spiraling thunderstorm cells may form unexpectedly, so stay tuned for official severe weather warnings.

Flood Risk Increases

With heavy rain possibilities reaching up to 50 liters per square meter and even hail, flooding is a real concern. Worse yet, storm to hurricane-force winds could cause damage, and even isolated tornadoes can't be ruled out. So, be prepared for some extreme weather across the Alps to the Bavarian Forest and up to the eastern mid-mountain range.

Windy Munich?

Regrettably, Munich might not escape the storm either. You'll want to keep a close eye on local forecasts and stay informed of official severe weather warnings.

The Rest of the Week

By Thursday and Friday, things should calm down somewhat, but we're still bracing for significant thunderstorms across the region. On Saturday and Sunday, prepare for intense thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 18-28°C and 16-23°C, respectively.

Sun's Out, Storm's Almost Over?

Whit Monday brings a glimmer of hope with more friendly weather from the southwest. However, scattered showers and thunderstorms are still expected, so even though it may look sunny, it's important to stay vigilant. Expect temperatures to climb as high as 23°C in the Upper Rhine region and trail off to a cool 16°C by the sea.

Caveats

Please keep in mind that the forecast is subject to change, and it's always important to stay updated on local conditions and official severe weather warnings. Remember the old adage: Hope for the best, plan for the worst. Stay safe and make the best of this thrilling weather rollercoaster!
