Worms invests €2M to modernize Paternusbad into a family-friendly swimming hub by 2028
Worms has secured €2 million in state funding to transform Paternusbad into a modern, accessible swimming complex. The renovated facility, set to reopen in 2028, will serve as both a sports centre and a family-friendly pool with upgraded amenities.
The funding will support the second phase of renovations at Paternusbad in Pfeddersheim. Plans include a new swimmers' pool, a waterslide, and a shallow play area for toddlers. Technical systems will also be upgraded to improve energy efficiency.
Construction began at the end of the 2025 summer season, forcing the pool to close during the works. The city has stressed the importance of swimming skills, especially given Worms' location near a major river. Officials aim to ensure every child in the area learns to swim, treating it as both a cultural tradition and a safety necessity. Once completed, the facility will meet full accessibility standards. The 2028 reopening will mark its return as a key community hub for recreation and sports.
The renovated Paternusbad will feature improved infrastructure and new attractions for visitors. With the €2 million investment, the city expects a fully modernised, energy-efficient pool ready for the 2028 season. The project aligns with Worms' goal of promoting swimming as an essential life skill.
