World's famous poker tournament WPT Bay 101 resurfaces in 2025, promising classic bounty battles and a hefty $5,300 Main Event award.
WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Returns to the Poker Calendar in 2025
The World Poker Tour (WPT) is set to bring back one of its most iconic events, the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star, this October. The tournament, known for its unique bounty format and star-studded fields, will take place at the Bay 101 Casino in San Jose, California.
Originally launched in 1997, the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star became a WPT staple in 2004. Over the years, it has produced unforgettable winners and million-dollar paydays, becoming a marquee event on the poker calendar.
The tournament blends a traditional WPT tournament with a bounty structure that rewards players for eliminating "Shooting Stars," which are featured professional poker players. Each table in the Shooting Star Championship will feature Shooting Stars with $2,500 bounties on their heads. Knocking out a Shooting Star earns the player the bounty. If the Shooting Star wins the tournament, they collect their own winnings.
The 2025 edition of the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star is scheduled from October 17 to November 2. The highlight of the festival is the $5,300 Shooting Star Championship, which will run from October 24 to October 28.
Confirmed Shooting Stars for the 2025 tournament include Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Phil Hellmuth, Jeff Platt, David "ODB" Baker, Xuan Liu, Faraz Jaka, David Williams, Tyler Patterson, Kenna James, and Shannon Shorr.
Day 1 chip leaders will receive a $5,000 bonus, and each starting table in the Shooting Star Championship includes at least one Shooting Star. The televised final table will be held at a later date in Las Vegas.
While the exact list of winners from 1997 onward is not fully detailed, the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star remains a marquee WPT event known for its iconic structure and star-studded fields. Notable winners include Phil Gordon, Danny Nguyen, Nam Le, Ted Forrest, Steve Brecher, Moon Kim, and James Carroll.
The WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament is expected to reclaim its spot as a can't-miss event on the poker calendar, attracting top poker professionals and celebrities. The 2025 edition is set to be an exciting return for this beloved stop on the WPT.
