The Chess Festival Highlights
- German Chess Championship (June 1st–2nd)
After a 125-year absence, the German Chess Championship is returning to Munich. At Kulturhaus Milbertshofen,afty grandmasters like Pavel Eljanov, Luis Engel, and Milan Pacher will square off. Remember, children's tournament on Sunday, June 1st, is not to be missed!
- Norm Tournaments (June 3rd–7th)
The Norm Tournaments will take place at the Salesianum youth center in Haidhausen. With more than 50 players participating across various groups, it promises to be a real spectacle!
- International Pfingst-Open (Highlight and Largest Tournament) (June 8th–14th)
The International Pfingst-Open serves as the festival's highlight and largest tournament. Kicking off on June 8th, this event will see more than 150 participants in the A-tournament, nearly 100 in the B-tournament, and around 60 in the youth tournament. The event will be orchestrated by the experienced grandmaster, Sebastian Siebrecht.
As an added bonus, an online studio will be set up, allowing chess enthusiasts worldwide to tune in and follow the games online.
The festival will also play host to an exhibition, "Capture," by renowned chess photographer Stev Bonhage. Notably, this event draws participants from as far as Australia, Denmark, Georgia, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Czech Republic, among other nations.
What sets the festival apart is the remarkable age range of the participants, with more than half of them hailing from the new millennium. Fascinating stuff for the young and the old alike!
Chess Camp for Kids in June
During the Whitsun holidays, from June 10th to 13th, a chess camp for children and young people will take place at Munich-Moosach High School. Aimed at participants between 6–14 years, this camp includes workshops, training sessions, tournament rounds, free play, and simultaneous chess with a grandmaster–sign up now and seize this fantastic opportunity!
