Why Flick? The Extraordinary Hansi Tops the Global Coaching Charts
World-Renowned Coach Hansi Flick Remains Popular Globally
Facebook Twitter Whatsapp E-Mail Print Copy Link Kicker's poll sees 216 Bundesliga professionals casting their votes. Among the topics they discuss, they weigh in on the world's best coach at the moment.
Not a shocker, despite FC Bayern not dominating the Champions League trophy, ntv.de had an early hunch – Hansi Flick has been hailed as a super-coach since he benched Barcelona's struggles and breathed life into the team. His 2020 triumph with Bayern marked a significant leap into super-coach territory, clinching the triple of championship, cup, and Champions League.
Now, the award has been solidified, even without the Champions League title on his mantelpiece. In a comprehensive Kicker survey, 216 Bundesliga professionals declared Flick the best coach globally at the moment. Absolutely unsurprising, albeit, Flick and his Barcelona team, which challenged PSG for the throne, received an equal 31.9% of the votes.
Flick, the ex-national coach, engineered Barcelona into the continent’s titillating team. In his inaugural season, the squad garnered three titles – the championship, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercup – and narrowly missed the Champions League title following electrifying semi-final clashes against Inter Milan. His relentless offensive pressing football electrified Europe, just as it did with FC Bayern in 2020, where he clinched every title available.
Football: The "Destruction" of Munich
Paris Saint-Germain refused to relinquish its grasp over Inter Milan, blocking them from reaching the coveted Champions League final. Luis Enrique, who commanded Paris St. Germain to their maiden Champions League title, claimed the second spot. His historic achievement and the lopsided 5:0 victory over Inter Milan in the final must not be overlooked. Enrique garnered 16.7% of the votes in the trademark player survey.
Guardiola: A Surprising Appearance
Flick comfortably leads the competition, but a surprise arises in fourth place – Pep Guardiola finds himself listed with 9.3% of the votes. Despite Manchester City's abysmal season, measured by their own standards, Flick maintains respect due to his exceptional work. Guardiola, who often self-criticizes, was disappointed but satisfied with the team's achievement of securing the Champions League qualification in the final stages.
The Enchanting Coach
Arne Slot lands fifth place in the rankings, receiving 8.8% of the votes. Slot led Liverpool FC to the championship in his maiden year following Jürgen Klopp. A slight flaw – Liverpool's early exit in the round of 16 against Paris St. Germain. But then, a bit of vengeance – PSG claimed the trophy in the end.
On another note, the Kicker also polled players for the world's best player. The outcome was almost a foregone conclusion. More than half of the voting Bundesliga professionals named Lamine Yamal (53.7%). In second place was Ousmane Dembélé, who received 6.9% of the votes. Florian Wirtz also made the second-place list, sandwiched between France's star striker Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona’s Raphinha, with 4.2% of the votes.
