The United Nations (UN) is hosting a high-level week at its headquarters in New York from September 22 to 30, 2023, marking the 80th anniversary of the organization. This annual gathering is a significant event, and this year, it is particularly special as the UN celebrates its milestone anniversary.

As part of the high-level week, Cartooning for Peace and Europeans Without Borders have launched a campaign named "Free the pencils" for the International Day of Peace. The "Free the pencils" campaign is dedicated to the International Day of Peace, which was first established by the United Nations in 1981.

Three animations, drawn by Yas (France), Dubovsky (Ukraine), and Amorim (Brazil), are part of the "Free the pencils" campaign. These animations are available for viewing at a specific link.

However, it's important to note that the "Free the pencils" campaign is not open to contributions from the public.

The artists participating in the ongoing CARICARTOONS campaign by Cartooning for Peace and Europeans Without Borders for International Peace Day include Plantu, Chappatte, and other renowned cartoonists from Europe.

In light of the current global turmoil, uncertainties, and upheavals, the UN has recommended taking concrete measures for peace during this period. The UN High-Level Week is a platform for world leaders, diplomats, and advocates to discuss and propose solutions for peace and stability.

The "Free the pencils" campaign is a joint initiative by Cartooning for Peace and Europeans Without Borders. The campaign aims to use the power of art to promote peace and understanding, echoing the UN's mission.

The high-level week is part of the annual General Assembly of the UN. This week is a crucial time for discussions on global issues, and it serves as a reminder of the UN's role in maintaining peace and promoting development around the world.
