India Gears Up for BWF World Junior Team Championships 2025

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has announced the selection process for the Indian team participating in the BWF World Junior Team Championships 2025, scheduled to take place in Guwahati, Assam.

The selection process follows a defined structure, with medalists from the 2025 Badminton Asia Junior Championships (Individual) gaining direct entry into the team. The remaining team spots will be filled through a Selection Trial, which will be held from August 9 to 13, 2025, at the National Centre of Excellence (NCE), Amingaon, Guwahati.

The eligibility criteria for the selection trial include players who meet the BAI ranking cut-offs, Indian juniors ranked in the BWF World Junior Top 20, Indian juniors ranked in the BWF Senior Top 50 as of July 29, 2025, and all players previously selected for the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2025 team (except the medalists who have direct entry).

The BWF World Junior Team Championships will be a 10-day event, with the team event (Suhandinata Cup) running from October 6 to 11, 2025, followed by individual events from October 13 to 19. India has been seeded second in Group H, alongside Hong Kong China, Nepal, and Ghana. Group winners will progress to the quarter-finals.

A new relay format has been introduced in the competition, where a set now consists of 5 matches (men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles). Each match in the set will end when one team reaches 9 points.

The trials are not exclusive to Indian players, as they also include Indian shuttlers ranked in the BWF World Junior Top 20 and juniors ranked in the Senior Top 50. It's worth noting that all players selected in the Indian team for the WONDR Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2025 are also invited for the trials, except the medallists who already have direct entry.

The BWF World Junior Team Championships 2025 will be held concurrently with the WONDR Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2025 in Guwahati, India. The tournament features 37 teams from across the world, including China, the 14-time champions, who are in Group E and will face Japan, Singapore, Brazil, and Bhutan. Top-seed Thailand is in Group A, alongside Denmark, Slovenia, and Cook Islands. Indonesia, the defending champions, are in Group C with Türkiye, Romania, and the Netherlands.

This detailed and structured selection and tournament format is aimed at forming a competitive Indian contingent for the championships conducted on home soil. The trials and the championships promise an exciting showcase of young talent and competitive badminton action.
