Lately, there's been a buzz about possibly bigger things to come, but the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has kept mum on the specifics. Back in April, CEO Matthew Porter hinted about the venue, saying, "I know where the World Championship will be held, and we'll spill the beans soon!" But, alas, no official announcement has been made yet.
Worried about the peeps shifting the tournament off to some far-off island, like Saudi Arabia? Don't be! The ongoing rumors are just that — rumors.
A Million Reasons to Shoot for the Stars!
Here's the exciting part! The PDC isn't messing about — they're pumping up the World Championship like never before! Not only are they packing the lineup with 128 players (up from 96), but they've also doubled the prize money! Instead of that measly half a million pounds, the winner will now snag a whopping one million pounds (approximately 1.2 million euros)! As Porter put it, "Darts' swag factor? Sky-high!"
But wait, there's more! With all these changes, the top-tier players, including our champ Luke Littler, are gonna have to step up their game, because everyone's got to fight in the first round! Now, the Darts World Championship is kinda like a tennis grand slam, minus the grass courts, of course.
The extended tournament means more matches... and more sessions! With 32 additional matches and a tantalizing eight extra sessions, the ticket sales at Ally Pally are gonna be through the roof! The championship might itch to start as early as the 11th of December, instead of the traditional 15th.
