German Volleyball Team Eliminated from World Cup in Philippines
The German volleyball team has been eliminated from the World Cup tournament in the Philippines, following a 1:3 (21:25, 25:17, 29:31, 22:25) loss to the favored Slovenians.
In the opening game, the Germans suffered a clear defeat, with the rising Bulgarians proving too strong. However, the team fought back valiantly, reaching 17:17 in the fourth set. Despite their efforts, the Slovenians proved superior in the crucial moments, securing the win.
The German team faced a tough group in the tournament, and their only victory came against underdog Chile. Outside hitter Erik Rohrs, who had previously made important points, landed a hit in the block of the opponents, resulting in a loss of set. Rohrs expressed his disappointment, stating that the German team gave away all the close games in the tournament.
Captain Georg Grozer, who was the top German scorer in the first two games of the tournament, watched from the bench as a service error by his teammate sealed the loss in the third set, which was evenly matched and went into extra points.
Grozer has announced his plans to compete in the upcoming season in the Chinese league, where he aims to give his best and win the championship, while still holding onto his dream of participating in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles with his daughter Leana.
National coach Michal Winiarski urged his team not to give up during a timeout, and he believes they played their best game in the tournament. The DVV team had a total of five set balls in the match, but were unable to convert them into wins.
Despite Grozer's strong performance in the initial games, he was unable to find his usual form throughout the tournament. The team fought back against the serving pressure, with six aces leveling the match, but it was not enough to secure a victory.
With the World Cup tournament now behind them, Grozer intends to focus on winning the championship in Shanghai, where he will continue playing for his club. The German volleyball team's journey in the Philippines ends here, but their determination to succeed remains undiminished.
