In a disappointing turn of events, the German volleyball team's World Cup campaign came to an abrupt end following a 1:3 (21:25, 25:17, 29:31, 22:25) loss against Slovenia in a winner-takes-all match in Pasay City.

The Germans started the game strongly, with middle blocker Tobias Krick contributing to quick attacks that put points on the board. However, a service error by Erik Rohrs sealed their fate, as a final hit landed in the block, resulting in a loss of a set ball for Germany.

The fourth set saw Germany falling behind 4:8, but they fought back to 17:17. Despite their efforts, crucial moments slipped away, and Slovenia capitalised on their opportunities to take the lead and ultimately secure the victory.

Captain Georg Grozer, who had been the top German scorer in the first two games of the tournament, was on the bench during the match against Slovenia. Despite being the team's leading scorer, Grozer couldn't find his usual form throughout the tournament.

The German team had a tough group, suffering a clear defeat against rising Bulgaria in their opener and only managing to win against underdog Chile. Their hopes of advancing to the round of 16 were dashed as they headed home from the Philippines.

Looking ahead, Captain Grozer has plans to participate in the upcoming season in the Chinese league. However, there are no search results indicating the next club where Grozer will play.

Erik Rohrs expressed regret about giving away close points during the match, and coach Winiarski urged his team to never stop believing during a timeout. The German team will now turn their attention to the future, aiming to bounce back stronger in their next tournament.
