Max Eberl, the whiz behind the scenes at FC Bayern, is keeping a watchful eye on his boys as they compete in the Club World Cup. Meanwhile, the transfer market, especially in Europe, won't escape his keen insight.

Eberl's plate stays filled with work, fine-tuning the squad for the upcoming season. And wherever the 51-year-old goes in these days, he's bound to be bombarded with questions about potential transfers or star players. When can we expect some action?

Eberl humorously remarks, "What's the date today? And how much longer is the transfer window open? Until September 1. The Isar will flow a lot, the Ohio too."

What's keeping Eberl awake at night?

Eberl explains that it's just part of the job. What gnaws at him, though, are "these transfer rumors and candidates for sale that are tossed around a lot." This includes players like Kingsley Coman, Min-jae Kim, Sacha Boey, Serge Gnabry, or João Palhinha.

He's managed to sign national players Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen) and Tom Bischof (TSG Hoffenheim)—free agents who are representing the club at the World Cup. In return, there are three departures up front: Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, and Mathys Tel (20) were sold permanently for around €35 million to Tottenham Hotspur in London after a loan.

The attacking roster still needs some work. Eberl admitted this, and sports director Christoph Freund echoed, "Our goal is to strengthen ourselves there and bring in quality." Joshua Kimmich concurred, but Eberl rebuked, "Jo is on the pitch — I'm doing my part off it."

Transfer questions can also be answered on the field. Sacha Boey, for example, seemed redundant as the third right-back, but he's shown his worth as a scorer, among other things, in the 10-0 win against Auckland City. Coman even scored twice and performed strongly against an opponent who, of course, was no match.

The Frenchman has been with the club since 2015. His contract still has two years to run. The 29-year-old is injury-prone, which Eberl and coach Vincent Kompany mention but express support for Coman, stating that "King brings his performance" and he's "an extraordinary player who played a fantastic season last year, in my opinion. And he stayed healthy, which is the most important thing for King."

Kompany tries to avoid all transfer topics at the World Cup. But he did comment on Coman in sporting terms: "When we talk about his quality, it's important not to forget that he scores important goals. I know sometimes people only look at the volume, 20 season goals, 15 goals. But he has scored important goals in the history of the club."

His most iconic goal was the winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. "If he stays fit, we have a top winger," said Kompany. Bayern's buying and selling list seems to be in constant flux.
