World Cup Woes: The Transfer Saga Haunting Bayern's Sporting Director, Eberl
Disgruntled World Cup Experience: Eberl's Recorded Dismissals and Transfer-Related Stress - World Cup Irritations of Eberl: Examining His Discontent
Max Eberl has got his eyes peeled on the current Bayern squad during the Club World Cup in the USA. But, the European transfer market is causing him a headache.
Eberl's still got some squad tweaking to do for the upcoming season. Everywhere he goes these days, it's the same - questions about potential departures or pricey new signings. What's the hold-up?
After the opening game in Cincinnati, Eberl quipped, "What's today's date? And how long is the transfer window open? Until September 1st. A lot can happen before then."
What's Eberl's game plan?
Eberl hinted that it's all part of the business. However, he's frustrated by "the never-ending transfer rumors and players being linked to the transfer market." This includes names like Kingsley Coman, Min-jae Kim, Sacha Boey, Serge Gnabry, and João Palhinha.
So far, he's only managed to ink national players Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen) and Tom Bischof (TSG Hoffenheim) – without a transfer fee. They're both part of the World Cup squad. But, in attack, three players have been rubbed off the roster, including Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, and the promising Mathys Tel (20), who was sold permanently for around €35 million to Tottenham Hotspur in London following a loan spell.
A sign from Kimmich
One thing still needs to happen upfront on the buying side. First, Eberl admitted this, then Christoph Freund said, "Our objective is to strengthen ourselves there and bring in quality." Joshua Kimmich shared a similar sentiment but earned a stern rebuke from Eberl: "Jo is on the pitch – I'm doing it off the pitch."
Transfer puzzles can also be solved on the pitch. Sacha Boey, typically the third-choice right-back, impressed with a goal and more against Auckland City. Coman even bagged a brace, playing 45 minutes impressively against an underwhelming opponent.
The Frenchman has been at the club since 2015. His contract still has two years left. However, the 29-year-old's injury-prone history is a concern. Both Eberl and coach Vincent Kompany spoke up in support of Coman when discussing possible transfers, with Kompany quick to remind everyone of Coman's important goals like the winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. "If he stays fit, we've got a top winger," said Kompany.
The state of the Bayern trading list seems to be in continuous flux.
Kompany tries to avoid all transfer discussions at the World Cup – at least publicly. But he did mention Coman in sporting terms: "When we talk about his quality, it's crucial not to neglect his crucial goals. I know sometimes people only focus on the volume, 20 season goals, 15 goals. But he has scored important goals in Bayern's history."
Besides Coman, there are rumors about a few other players. There's no specific buzz about Min-jae Kim or Sacha Boey, and Bayern’s defensive options also include discussions about Jonathan Tah, who is reportedly being targeted as a possible replacement for outgoing defenders[1][2]. João Palhinha isn't in the reckoning for any transfer, and the club is more focused on securing young talents like Florian Wirtz and defensive reinforcements[1][4]. Other young players returning from loans or whose loans were made permanent include Maximilian Bauer, Dion Beljo, Chrislain Matsima, and Patric Pfeiffer[4].

- Despite the ongoing Club World Cup, the European Parliament, in the form of Max Eberl, Bayern Munich's sporting director, is anxiously awaiting the transfer window to close on September 1st, hoping to put an end to the transfer rumors and speculations surrounding players like Kingsley Coman, Min-jae Kim, Sacha Boey, Serge Gnabry, and João Palhinha.
- Amidst the barrage of transfer rumors, football and soccer enthusiasts are keenly following the fate of these players, particularly Kingsley Coman, whose important goals for Bayern Munich, such as the winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, has made him a key figure, if he can stay fit.
