Workplace probes miss deeper cultural flaws, expert warns

Workplace investigations often focus on policy violations rather than deeper assessment issues. Natalie Norfus, founder of The Norfus Firm, has repeatedly highlighted this gap. Her recommendations for broader assessments have gone unheeded, leaving underlying problems unresolved.

In 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) hired Norfus to examine discriminatory practices among HR executives. That same year, her firm also investigated a major healthcare provider. The findings revealed inconsistent policy enforcement, perceived bias, and a lack of accountability from HR leaders. Employees of colour, in particular, reported having their concerns dismissed or downplayed.

The repeated failures show that compliance-only investigations are not enough. Companies that ignore cultural assessments risk persistent dysfunction and higher expenses. Norfus’s work underscores the need for deeper, systemic change in workplace practices.
