Workers' Safety from Electronic Devices Risks Proposal Sought by Commission

Berlin's current mayor, Kai Wegner, is making it clear that Berlin's support for the federal government's proposed economic relief package won't come easy. He's drawn a line in the sand, stating, "In Berlin, we've agreed within our coalition not to support any measures that would burden our budget," according to Handelsblatt.

Amidst the economic chaos, Wegner insists that the states' burden must remain reasonable. "The principle should be: whoever orders, pays," he flatly states.

From the federal government, Wegner seeks a comprehensive evaluation of tasks. For example, the Germany ticket might be well-intentioned, but it's a costly venture for both the federal government and the states. "Such federal handouts, which then have to be largely financed by the states, we can no longer afford," Wegner hard-hits.

The economic relief package includes enhanced tax depreciation options for businesses purchasing machinery, equipment, and electric vehicles. From 2028, the corporate tax rate will also see a decrease. A summit between the federal government and the states with Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) was initially scheduled for June 18, but the date has since been postponed. A new meeting date is yet to be coordinated.
