Workers' Safeguarding Proposal Demanded for Radiation Exposure Risks by Commission
A Left Party member got booted from the Bundestag's main hall after rockin' a Palestine T-shirt. The Parliament's President, Julia Klöckner (CDU), explained that political slogans on clothing ain't welcome in the plenary.[1][2][3]
North Rhine-Westphalia's rep, Cansin Köktürk, donned a shirt sporting "Palestine" in big, bold letters. Klöckner had privately asked Köktürk to change her digs, but she flat-out refused. Klöckner, unimpressed, told her to skedaddle from the session, and Köktürk eventually obliged.[1][5]
This ain't Köktürk's first dance with controversy in the Bundestag. Just a few weeks back, she posted a pic in the plenary hall, flauntin' a Palestinian scarf, and created a stir.[1][2] Two weeks ago, her faction buddy, Marcel Bauer, got booted too - all because of a beret.[2]
Overall, the Bundestag ain't a fan of explicit political messages on clothing within the chamber. The institution prides itself on maintaining a certain level of prestige.[1][2][3] The rules specifically state that there's no room for stickers or any other forms of statement on T-shirts in the plenary.[2]
Other members of the Bundestag might consider expressing their general-news views or political beliefs, but adhering to the rules is crucial. Clothing with political slogans or statements is not permitted in the plenary according to the Bundestag's regulations.
