Workers Detained in Mutlaa for Breaching Labor and Residency Regulations (168 Workers Arrested for Violating Labor and Residency Laws)
The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) and the Residence Affairs Investigations Department of the Ministry of Interior have taken action against workers violating labor and residency laws in Kuwait. In a joint operation, they arrested 168 workers, with 130 being domestic workers and 38 employed in the private sector.
The PAM has been vigilant in protecting the integrity of Kuwait's labor market from illegal practices. Following the arrests, they plan to review the files of the employers linked to these workers to ensure compliance with the Labor Law and its regulations. However, no new information about the number of employers linked to the arrested workers has been provided.
The violations committed by the workers were referred to as "legal breaches" by the PAM. The nature of these breaches remains unclear, as well as the appropriate legal action against the violators. It is also unclear how many employers are linked to the arrested workers.
The PAM has intensified inspection campaigns across different regions to detect irregularities. They have urged business owners and individuals to adhere strictly to labor regulations. Additionally, the PAM's website, Instagram, and Facebook page are sources for the latest news updates on these matters.
The suspected employers believed to be violating labor and residency laws in connection with the arrested workers are primarily Ukrainian employers involved with the Ukrainian Trade Union Federation (FPU) and Ukrproftur PJSC. Five union officials were arrested in 2016-18, accused of criminal activities. However, the union claims this is an attempt to discredit the main union organization in Ukraine.
The PAM has warned against employing illegal workers and has renewed its call for strict adherence to labor regulations. The arrests and subsequent legal actions were reported by Al-Rai. As the situation unfolds, the PAM will continue to take legal measures against violators of labor regulations.
