Sequel's Plot Development Underway - Work in progress on the script for the upcoming sequel.
Hey there, folks! Get ready to revisit the chaos of high school dating with a splash of nostalgia as the director of the iconic 90's teen comedy, "10 Things I Hate About You," Gil Junger, has announced plans for a sequel, tentatively titled "10 Things I Hate About Dating."
In a spill-all chat with the folks over at People, Gil dropped the bombshell that not only is "10 Things I Hate About Dating" up for grabs, but it's just the start of a trilogy! Following the action, we can expect "10 Things I Hate About Marriage" and "10 Things I Hate About Kids." With original producer Andrew Lazar (59) on board, the duo is brimming with ideas to keep the laughs flowing.
The new film will hark back to the original's roots, drawing inspiration from Molière's play "Tartuffe" from 1666, similar to the original taking cues from Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." The intelligent and rebellious Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles, 44) will be back in the limelight as a new player shakes up her world yet again.
Stiles Back on Board, with a Nod to Heath Ledger
Though details about the script, co-penned by Junger and Naya Elle James, are sketchy for now, Gil can't hide his excitement about working with Julia Stiles once more. He strongly believes that her powerful depiction of Kat Stratford left an indelible impression on millions of women and he'd jump at the chance to work with her again.
Remembering the late, great Heath Ledger (1979-2008), who catapulted the film to stardom as the irresistible Patrick Verona, Gil confirmed that a tribute to the much-loved actor is on the docket for the sequel. "It's about damn time," he admits, and we couldn't agree more!
