For today's game, we have four common letters, and one uncommon one.

How I solved today's Wordle
I hucked RAISE at the board and followed up with CHANT, then threw out PLUGS to rule out potential consonants. Next, BRAVE felt right, leaving AWARE as the victor.
Yesterday's Wordle answer, a quick recap
Yesterday's round was a medium-difficulty contest. The hint was "used to curl" and the answer sported two common and three fairly common letters.
Yesterday's winning word was BICEP.
A crash course on Wordle basics
The aim of Wordle is to guess the day's secret word. When you first dive in, you'll see an empty grid of letters. It's your call to make the first play: type in any five-letter word.
Now, based on the colors that appear, you can deduce the word: Green means you hit the bullseye with the letter and its position, yellow indicates the letter is somewhere in the word but in the wrong spot, and gray tells you the letter isn't in the solution at all.
Use these hints to guess wisely, and you'll have a shot at winning before you run out of chances. You get six tries, and then it's a wrap.
Starters worth a shot in Wordle
Wondering what word to pick first? Look for options containing common letters to boost your chances of landing on yellow and green tiles to guide your next moves. There isn't a single "perfect" opening word, but the New York Times' Wordle analysis bot digs CRANE, TRACE, SLANT, and CRATE. MIT's analysis shows that the most effective first picks are SALET, REAST, TRACE, CRATE, and SLATE. Others you might like include ARISE or ROUND. The key is to build your strategy and go wild!
Winning Wordle ain't rocket science
Want to learn how to master Wordle? Check out our strategies guides. This one concentrates on using consonants to your advantage, this one zeroes in on a common letters approach, and this advanced guide outlines a three-pronged attack to catch the hidden word while boosting your chances of scoring a swift victory.
The biggest difference between Wordle winners and losers is that winners use their guesses to gather information about what letters are in the secret word. If you know the word must end in -OUND, for example, be more strategic than wasting four guesses on MOUND, ROUND, HOUND, and SOUND; combine those consonants and guess MARSH instead. If the H lights up in yellow, you've scored a bullseye.
The secret sauce that sets Wordle apart from its original formulation is the human editor who picks the words. Sometimes they can be tricky, and sometimes they're topical. For instance, on Thanksgiving, FEAST was the answer. So don't be surprised if there's a theme lurking behind the scenes!
Wordle wannabes worth a gander
Satiated with five-letter guessing games? The top Wordle alternatives, in order of difficulty, include:
- Wheeldle, where you can play one round after another
- Dordle and Quordle, which ask you to tackle two (Dordle) or four (Quordle) games at once, with the same set of guesses. There's also Octordle, with eight grids to conquer, and Sedecordle, sporting 16 jigsaws.
- Waffle, which shows you a scrambled grid of five-letter words; you solve them by rearranging the letters.
- Absurdle, in which the solution changes after each guess, but it must stay consistent with its feedback. You have to be strategic and push it into a corner until there's only one possible word left; then you guess it, and you win.
- Squabble, where you compete against other players with a timer ticking down. You take damage if you linger too long between turns; the last player remaining is dubbed the victor.
- Antiwordle, in which you try not to guess the day's solution. You must reuse any letters you correctly guessed, so the longer it takes, the better you fare in the game.
