Woolworth Mansion Finally Sells After 14.5-Year Wait
The grand Woolworth mansion at 4 East 80th Street has found a buyer after being in contract. The sale marks the end of a 14.5-year journey, with the price slashed by half from its initial $90 million asking price to just under $50 million.
This opulent residence, designed by an architect, is the most similar to Frank Winfield Woolworth's own Upper East Side mansion, among three townhouses he built for his daughters. Spanning nearly 20,000 square feet over seven stories, it boasts lavish features such as a dining room for 50, 14-foot ceilings, a wood-paneled library, three kitchens, massive stone fireplaces, and a baronial staircase adorned with busts.
The sale may have been delayed due to the mansion's specific architectural style, which appeals to a limited pool of buyers. Despite this, the property has finally changed hands, with no information yet available about the new owner.
The Woolworth mansion, once listed for $90 million, has sold for just under $50 million after a 14.5-year wait. Its unique architectural style and grand features have now attracted a buyer, though the identity remains unknown.
