Woody Allen Shoots Next Project in Spain - Woody Allen's 'Madrid Wasp' Gets €1.5M Boost, Despite Controversy
Woody Allen, the renowned 89-year-old filmmaker, has found his next project's home in Madrid. The working title, 'Wasp 2026', or 'Woody Allen Summer Project', is set to receive €1.5 million from the regional government, with additional investors still needed for full production costs.
Allen's company, Gravier Productions, will collaborate with the Spanish firm Wanda Vision on this venture. The funding agreement includes unusual conditions, with a portion of the money being withheld until after the film's world premiere. This is not Allen's first time working in Spain; he previously shot 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' there in 2008, also with regional funding.
The film's title must include 'Madrid' and is expected to premiere at a major festival like the Berlinale. Allen's most recent film, 'Coup de Chance', premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival.
Despite ongoing controversies surrounding abuse allegations made by his daughter, Dylan Farrow, Allen has struggled to secure financing in the U.S. However, Madrid's support and collaboration with Wanda Vision indicate that 'Wasp 2026' is moving forward, with its unique funding conditions and Madrid-centric title.
