Women's triathlon competition in Hagen advances to the second tier of leagues
In a thrilling finale at the NRW League season in Vreden, the SG Tri Team Hagen/Tri Gecko Dortmund secured their promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. The team, comprising Lene Meierjürgen, Valesca Wippich, and Ninja Schweppe, clinched third place in the day's results, solidifying their place among the elite triathletes.
The trio demonstrated a strong performance throughout the competition, working together on the bike course to keep their pursuers at bay. After the swim, all three athletes had secured excellent starting positions, with all three in the top ten.
Ninja Schweppe completed the strong team result in 19th place, while Lene Meierjürgen and Valesca Wippich crossed the finish line hand in hand in 12th place in the final 5-kilometer run. Emma Fahrenson, Marie Gröting, and Lotte Langosch also contributed significantly to the overall success of the team.
The club representing in the upcoming season of the 2nd Bundesliga of the Triathlon Bundesliga will be VfL Münster e.V., whose men's first team has been competing in the 2. Bundesliga South since 2023 and will move up to the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga in 2026.
Despite the success, the team leaders expressed pride in a successful season but acknowledged that the promotion serves as a foundation for the 'top-class' triathletes in the upcoming season. After the season, there will be a short break before preparations for the 2026 season begin.
It's worth noting that Köln TT01 and DLC Aachen, who finished ahead of the SG Tri Team Hagen/Tri Gecko Dortmund team, already have teams in the 2nd Bundesliga. The SG Tri Team Hagen/Tri Gecko Dortmund team finished third in the final NRW League standings.
