Swedish Defender Amanda Ilestedt Joins Eintracht Frankfurt's Women's Team

Amanda Ilestedt, a seasoned defender for the Swedish national football team, has joined Eintracht Frankfurt's women's team in the Bundesliga on a three-year contract, extending until June 30, 2028.

The 32-year-old, who previously played for Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Turbine Potsdam, is set to fill at least part of the gap left by the departures of Sara Doorsoun and Sophia Kleinherne.

Ilestedt spent two years with Arsenal, making 23 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals. During her time with the Gunners, she helped the club win the Women's League Cup in the 2023/2024 season and lifted the UEFA Women's Champions League trophy in May 2025. However, she rarely played for Arsenal after the birth of her daughter and did not play in their Champions League victory.

Before Arsenal, Ilestedt had played in the German league with Bayern Munich. Her move to Eintracht Frankfurt marks her return to the Bundesliga four years after leaving Bayern. Upon signing, she expressed enthusiasm about joining one of Germany’s top clubs and contributing her experience to help the team win domestically and in Europe.

Eintracht Frankfurt's women's technical director Katharina Kiel stated that Ilestedt brings a profile that the squad has not yet had. Coach Niko Arnautis echoed this sentiment, saying that Ilestedt will greatly help the team with her experience. Frankfurt's women's football team is relying on Amanda Ilestedt's expertise as they aim to compete at the highest level.

Ilestedt's impressive career includes a stint at Turbine Potsdam, where she played for two years before moving to Bayern Munich. She also represented Sweden in the European Championship this summer, making one appearance for her national team. Despite watching her team's 4-1 win over Germany from the bench at the tournament, she remains a valuable asset to the Swedish team.

As Ilestedt begins her new chapter with Eintracht Frankfurt, fans and pundits alike are eager to see what she can bring to the team. With her wealth of experience and international pedigree, she is poised to make a significant impact on the pitch and help Eintracht Frankfurt achieve their goals.

Amanda Ilestedt, who has a decorated career in football and represented Sweden in the sport, will be bringing her skills to Eintracht Frankfurt's women's team in the Bundesliga. Her experience playing for top-tier clubs like Arsenal and Bayern Munich, as well as her success with the Swedish national team, makes her a valuable addition to Frankfurt's roster as they strive to excel both domestically and in European competitions.
