Women's One-Day International centuries records: Smriti Mandhana establishes fastest century against Australia
In the recent match in New Chandigarh, Smriti Mandhana, the Indian cricket star, shattered the record for the quickest women's ODI century against Australia. Her stunning century came off just 77 balls, eclipsing the previous record of 79 balls set by Nat Sciver-Brunt in the 2022 World Cup.
Mandhana, who opened the batting for India, started the match alongside Pratika Rawal. The pair put together a stand of 70 runs before Rawal was dismissed for 25 runs by Ash Gardner. Mandhana's half-century came against Georgia Wareham, and she notched up her century against Tahlia McGrath.
With this century, Mandhana is now tied with Tammy Beaumont for the third-most ODI centuries in the format. Her quickfire century also makes her the first Indian to score 800 ODI runs in a single year, setting a new benchmark for her compatriots.
Alyssa Healy captained Australia in the match and chose to field first. However, Mandhana's explosive batting performance helped India post a challenging total on the board.
The current record for the quickest women's ODI century is held by Meg Lanning, who scored a century off just 45 balls in 2012-13. While Mandhana's century is not the quickest yet, it is undoubtedly an impressive achievement that places her among the greats of women's cricket.
With one more ODI in this series and potentially nine at this year's World Cup, Mandhana has an excellent chance to become the first woman to score 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year. This would be another remarkable milestone in her already illustrious career.
The full list of the fastest women's ODI centuries now includes Smriti Mandhana's record-breaking century. As the cricket world continues to watch her career with bated breath, there's no doubt that Mandhana is set to make history once again.
