Women's basketball game disrupted for the second time due to use of adult novelty items

In the past nine days, the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) has experienced four incidents of sex toys being thrown onto the court during games. The latest incident occurred during the Atlanta Dream's game against the Chicago Sky, where a purple sex toy landed on the court in the final seconds of the game.

This disruptive behavior has been a recurring issue for the WNBA, with similar incidents occurring in Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles since July 29. Two men have been arrested in separate incidents in Georgia and Arizona for throwing sex toys onto WNBA courts.

The color of the sex toys involved in previous incidents was green, and the latest one was purple. The men involved in these incidents are charged with disorderly conduct, trespassing, public indecency, indecent exposure, and other related offenses. If convicted, they face fines or jail time.

Sophie Cunningham, an Indiana Fever player, has spoken out against these incidents, stating that they make it difficult for the WNBA to be taken seriously. She was nearly hit by a sex toy during a game in Los Angeles.

In response, the WNBA has threatened to ban offenders from arenas for at least a year following the incidents, and has also issued a statement condemning the actions. The league has responded by firmly enforcing security standards to deter these actions, emphasizing ejections and bans to maintain a safe, respectful environment.

The penalties for throwing sex toys onto WNBA courts include immediate ejection from the arena and a minimum one-year ban from attending WNBA games. In some cases, such as a recent incident during a Dream vs. Valkyries game, the fan involved was also arrested.

The WNBA, as a professional basketball league, aims to provide a platform for women to showcase their skills and talents in the sport. However, these incidents are a distraction and a hindrance to this goal. The league and its players are working to address this issue and ensure a safe and respectful environment for all.
