Woman's right to vote under fire: Pete Hegseth allegedly advocates for removal
In a move that has sparked widespread backlash, Pete Hegseth, a senior pastor at King's Cross Church in Moscow, Idaho, has shared a CNN news report advocating against women's right to vote. Hegseth, who is also the current US defense secretary, posted the full report on Twitter with the comment "All of Christ for All of Life."
The report features Douglas Wilson, another senior pastor at King's Cross Church, who is on a "crusade for Christian domination in the age of Trump." Wilson argues that women are subservient to men and advocates repealing the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.
This controversial stance has caused concern among social media users, with one describing Hegseth's views as "bats**." The controversy is further compounded by past allegations against Hegseth, including claims that he once stated women should not have the right to vote or work.
Jared Longshore, executive pastor of Christ Church in Idaho, another church promoting similar views, supports the repeal of the 19th amendment. Toby Sumpter, another senior pastor at King's Cross Church, suggests that he would be the one to vote for his household and discuss it with them before casting the vote.
Women veterans in Congress and women's rights advocates have demanded that Hegseth apologize and resign for undermining a constitutional right. The Freedom from Religion Foundation considers Hegseth's actions a warning sign of Christian nationalist influence within the Pentagon and the potential rollback of women’s political rights.
Radio host and legal analyst Barry Markson expressed concern about the country, stating, "This is a direct attack on women's rights and a step backward in our progress towards gender equality."
As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how Hegseth will respond and whether he will face any consequences for his actions.
