Woman reportedly expressed approval upon discovering potential involvement in fatal incident at a bar in Syracuse, according to police reports.
In Syracuse, New York, Marisa M. Connelly, 41, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter following an unprovoked physical altercation at Guilfoil's Irish Pub on May 31, 2025. The victim, Lawrence J. Baker, 68, was later pronounced dead at Upstate University Hospital.
According to reports, the incident began when Connelly was leaving the bar and pushed Baker twice, causing him to fall off a bar stool. After he fell to the ground, Connelly allegedly kicked him. It was also reported that when Baker's potential death was mentioned, Connelly reportedly said "good".
Baker, who worked in tree maintenance and removal for years and later drove taxi for 15 years with Circle Taxi, was found unconscious at the pub. A medical examiner determined that the excessive physiological stress Baker experienced, caused by the verbal and physical altercation with Connelly, was greater than stress caused by regular activities of daily living.
Connelly turned herself in on August 11, 2025, and is being held pending arraignment. Staff writer Darian Stevenson, who covers breaking news, crime, and public safety, is following the case closely. You can reach her at dstevenson@our website for more updates.
The Onondaga County District Attorney, William Fitzpatrick, is involved in the case. The incident has left the community in shock, and the case is being closely watched.
