A 21-Year-Old Suspect Nabbed for Arms Trafficking in Nasarawa
Woman Detained in Nasarawa Possessing Over Four Hundred Eighty Live Bullets
In a bold move, the Nasarawa State Police have nabbed Fatima Salisu, a 21-year-old resident of Funtua, Katsina State, for suspected arms trafficking. The arrest was the result of a meticulously planned operation carried out across several significant local government areas.
Information provided by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, indicated that the police caught Salisu red-handed in the Azuba area of Lafia, transporting a substantial amount of ammunition. Authorities had received reliable intelligence that she was intending to deliver this consignment to criminal factions in Katsina, a region known for its struggles with banditry and terrorism.
The items recovered from Salisu included 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition and 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition—a total of 481 rounds. This seizure represents a significant blow to the illegal arms supply chain catering to terrorist and criminal groups in the region.
Spearheading the operation was the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit, under the guidance of CP Shetima J. Mohammed. The unit executed the arrest with remarkable precision.
Meanwhile, in Plateau State, the Wereng Camp community suffered a brutal attack by gunmen, resulting in at least nine tragic deaths and an undetermined number of injuries. The assailants also set numerous houses ablaze in a shocking display of violence. This incident marks yet another instance of the ongoing violence and insecurity plaguing various communities in the region.
Clearly, Nasarawa State finds itself at the epicenter of concerns over arms trafficking networks supplying terror-ridden areas across northern Nigeria. The arrest of Fatima Salisu sheds light on this troublesome trend, raising questions about Nasarawa's role in aiding and abetting the proliferation of illegal arms.
As police continue to crack down on these criminal activities and protect innocent civilians, the public is reminded to come forward with any information that can help dismantle these dangerous networks.
