New Delhi: Make Way for History!
Woman Aide-De-Camp, Yashasvi Solanki of the Navy, Makes Historical Milestone with Presidential Appointment
Lieutenant Commander Yashasvi Solanki has made her mark, becoming the first female officer from the Indian Navy to serve as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. Solanki is an emblem of women empowerment in the Indian armed forces, breaking barriers and proving that opportunities are galore for all, regardless of gender.
Hailing from Haryana, Solanki embarked on her naval journey in 2012. Serving under the Short Service Commission in the Logistics Branch, she's now charting new waters in her illustrious career. In her younger days, Solanki was a force to be reckoned with on the badminton and volleyball courts.
Following the footsteps of trailblazers like Squadron Leader Manisha Padi, Lt. Gen. Punita Arora, and Air Marshal Padmavathy Bandopadhyay, Solanki ascended to this prestigious role in April and completed a month-long orientation before assuming her new duties on May 1.
The Role Revisited
An ADC's role is pivotal in ensuring seamless coordination and communication between the President and various tiers of government and the military establishment. Typically, the ADC—a young officer from the Army, Navy, or Air Force—assists with official formalities, handles protocol duties, and facilitates meetings and ceremonial functions. Additionally, the ADC manages daily schedules, high-level engagements, and serves as a key liaison for the President.
Beyond these responsibilities, the ADC ensures protocol is followed to the letter during official events and day-to-day tasks. With this position carrying immense prestige and responsibility, it speaks volumes of the trust vested in Solanki by the Indian Navy and the government.
This role was attained through a stringent selection process, showcasing not only Solanki's merit but also the Indian Navy's dedication to recognizing talent regardless of gender. Solanki's achievement is a stepping stone in the evolution of women in the Indian armed forces, a testament to their growing presence and impact in the military establishment.
