Woltemade's premier first-class match ends in defeat for Flick, as City emerges victorious.
In a thrilling night of Champions League action, Manchester City and Barcelona emerged victorious in their respective matches.
At the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City took on SSC Napoli in a highly anticipated clash. Erling Haaland opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola's side in the first half, before Jeremy Doku added a second to secure a comfortable 2-0 win for the hosts. The match was not without incident, as Napoli's Giovanni Di Lorenzo was shown a red card in the 21st minute.
Over in Spain, Barcelona faced Newcastle United at the Camp Nou. Marcus Rashford scored two goals for the Catalan giants, but Anthony Gordon's late strike for Newcastle provided a tense finale. Hansi Flick's side ultimately held on to secure a 2-1 victory.
Flick, who took over as coach of Barcelona in the summer, made several substitutions in the second half. Alex Murphy, Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock, and Nick Woltemade were brought on, while Fabian Schär, Joelinton, Anthony Elanga, and Harvey Barnes were taken off.
Elsewhere in the Champions League, Sporting Lisbon secured a 3-1 win over an unnamed opponent. Francisco Trincão scored two goals for the Portuguese side, while Alisson Santos and Geovany Quenda also got on the scoresheet.
These results see Manchester City and Barcelona top their respective groups, with both teams looking strong favourites to progress to the knockout stages. The Champions League action continues next week, with more exciting matches to come.
