Wolfsburg's pothole crisis sparks 383 reports in just one month
Wolfsburg's streets show fresh damage every spring after winter takes its toll. The city depends on residents to flag potholes and other issues through its online reporting system, also known as the storyline online tool. Since January alone, 383 reports about road and pathway problems have been logged by locals.
The digital fault reporting tool, storyline online, went live in June 2021 as part of Wolfsburg's Smart City pilot. It lets residents quickly submit issues like illegal waste disposal, street cleaning needs, or traffic notices. Road and pathway damage remains one of the top four concerns reported by the public.
From October to now, 1,360 reports have been filed through the storyline online system. Around 65 percent of these have been fully processed, with an 80 percent resolution rate between October 1 and December 31. In 2023, the platform recorded 3,247 cases of potholes and road damage—2,891 of which were repaired.
The city has also rolled out a new tracking system to monitor faults over time. While the storyline online tool is the main option, residents can still report problems by email or phone.
The reporting system continues to play a key role in maintaining Wolfsburg's infrastructure. With winter damage reappearing each year, the city encourages residents to keep using the storyline online platform. The latest tracking updates aim to streamline repairs and reduce long-term road issues.
