WNBA's New York Liberty set for season resumption at Madison Square Garden
The New York Liberty are gearing up for their next game, set to take place this Friday at Madison Square Garden against the San Antonio Stars. With a current record of 18-8, the Liberty have all but secured the top seed in the Eastern Conference, boasting a 4 1/2-game lead over the Atlanta Dream.
In the Liberty's absence, the Stars have struggled, currently sitting at 5-18.
Tina Charles, a Rio Olympian and a key player for the Liberty this season, has been leading the league in scoring (21.4) and rebounding (9.6) averages. Her historic season has been a significant factor in the Liberty's success this year, making her the first player in WNBA history to win six Player of the Week honours in a single season.
Kiah Stokes has been another standout player for the Liberty. She's averaging 7.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, as well as 1.5 blocks. Sugar Rodgers contributes 14.7 points per game, while Shavonte Zellous adds 9.3 points to the team's offensive arsenal.
However, the Liberty have struggled against West powers Los Angeles Sparks and Minnesota Lynx, losing five out of six meetings against them. The return of Epiphanny Prince, a two-time All-Star, could be a significant factor if the Liberty face either the Sparks or Lynx in the WNBA Finals. Prince has been sidelined due to a torn ACL but could return as soon as Friday.
The Liberty have averaged 14 turnovers per game, the highest among all teams. As they prepare for the second half of the season, they have eight remaining regular season games to improve their performance and solidify their position as Eastern Conference leaders. The Liberty last played on July 21, providing them with ample time to work on their game before resuming their conquest of the Eastern Conference.
