Lighting Up the Court Once More: The Anticipated Return of Cameron Brink

WNBA's Cameron Brink of the Sparks shares significant health update before approaching 2025 season.

LOS ANGELES - The hopes of the Sparks were sky-high when they drafted Cameron Brink as the No. 2 overall pick in 2024's WNBA Draft. Unfortunately, a setback in the form of an ACL injury in June led to an abrupt end to her rookie season.

Fast-forwarding to 2025, as the Sparks prepare to kick off their new season, Brink's comeback is highly anticipated, but not quite imminent. In April's WNBA Draft reports, ESPN's Holly Rowe revealed that Brink's recovery schedule puts her around June for her comeback.

Recently, during the Sparks' media day, Brink spoke about her recuperation process, expressing her gratitude for the support she's receiving from the team. "I feel great, just taking it day by day," Brink shared. "And I'm really thankful that I'm not getting any pressure from the org, from the Sparks. They're doing a really good job of just supporting me full through this process. I'm feeling great and just taking it step by step."

Prior to her injury, Brink was showing impressive rookie stats, setting herself to potentially lead the WNBA in blocked shots. Over the 15 games she played, she averaged 2.3 blocked shots per game, placing her in second position, just behind Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson's 2.6. This small yet significant sample size is a testament to Brink's defensive prowess, a trait her teammates highly praise.

Team camaraderie plays a crucial role in Brink's recovery, providing much-needed encouragement during challenging times. "I'm very thankful for them," Brink said, appreciative of the confidence her teammates pour into her game. "Their support means a lot to me, as it makes me believe I can accomplish anything if I set my mind to it."

Upon her return, Brink is slated to assume her starting center position. Her adaptability to head coach Lynne Roberts' system, with the ability to score in the paint and shoot from the perimeter, makes her a valuable asset for the Sparks. Last season, Brink's contributions included 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals, playing over 21 minutes per game. Her field goal percentage has room for improvement, but her early three-point efficiency offers a promising sign.

As the Sparks prepare for their 2025 season opener on the road against the Golden State Valkyries on Friday, May 16, fans eagerly await Brink's return to the court. Her recovery under the guidance of renowned rehabilitation specialists Susan and Curtis Borchardt of The Athlete Blueprint[1][3][4] unfolds amidst anticipation and support from both the Sparks organization and her teammates[5].

Teammembers applaud Brink's persistent drive, knowing that her return to the court will occur while they draft the next sports season. With her comeback expected in June, Brink might once again lead the WNBA in blocked shots at the small forward position, drawing similarities to a game of basketball on the hardwood floor of the WNBA.
