WNBA Semifinals Secured by Minnesota Lynx; Phoenix Mercury and New York Liberty tie in the first round series

The Minnesota Lynx have secured their place in the WNBA Semifinals after a thrilling 75-74 victory over the Golden State Valkyries in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series. This marks the Lynx's return to the post-season following their loss in the WNBA Finals last season against the New York Liberty.

In their debut season as a franchise, the Golden State Valkyries put up a valiant fight. They finished the regular season with a respectable 23-21 record. However, in this closely contested playoff match, they came up just short against the experienced Lynx team.

The Lynx found themselves in a tough spot, trailing by 17 points in the third quarter. But they displayed their resilience, mounting a comeback to snatch the win. Napheesa Collier was a key player in this turnaround, scoring 24 points, including a go-ahead 18-foot shot with 1:24 left in the fourth quarter.

On the other side, the Phoenix Mercury and the New York Liberty are engaged in a fierce battle. The Mercury managed to level their series after dominating in Game 2, winning 86-60. Kahleah Copper and DeWanna Bonner both contributed 14 points to the Mercury's total, while Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas each scored 15 points for the Liberty.

Meanwhile, Breanna Stewart, who had been nursing a sprained MCL, played in Game 2 for the Liberty but could only score six points in 20 minutes. The series now shifts to Phoenix for Game 3, scheduled for Friday.

The Lynx's head coach, Cheryl Reeve, acknowledged the tough game against the Valkyries and praised their performance. She also expressed her satisfaction with her team's resilience, saying, "Golden State made the game tough for us, but we showed our character by coming back and winning."

The Lynx's next opponents in the semifinals will be the Connecticut Sun. As they prepare for this challenge, the Lynx will be looking to build on their playoff success and aim for a spot in the WNBA Finals.
