WNBA Season Previews and Betting Odds: Dream, Sky, Sun, Wings, Valkyries, Fever - Anticipated Performance and Wager Analysis
It's that time of year again! The WNBA preseason is now underway, and bookies have started setting win total lines for the upcoming regular season. I've crunched the numbers, and I'm sharing my T Shoe Index findings with you today, including projected win totals for every team and my potential betting strategies. Stay tuned for part two tomorrow on VSiN.com!
Here's a quick rundown of my WNBA win total bets and projections, sorted alphabetically:
Atlanta Dream: O/U 20.5 Wins
This Atlanta team is set for a much-improved season after disappointing the past couple of years. This offseason, they signed All-Stars Brittney Griner (6'9") and Brionna Jones (6'3") to bolster their frontcourt, along with veteran guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and draftee Te-Hina Paopao to pair with star guard Rhyne Howard. Given the upgrade in size and talent, TSI projects the Dream to win approximately 24 games, making the 20.5 line too low.
Bet: Over 20.5 Wins
Chicago Sky: O/U 18.5 Wins
Chicago is all about "win now" mode with young talents Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, trading the No. 3 pick in the 2025 draft for two-time All-Star Ariel Atkins, while also stealing Courtney Vandersloot from the champion NY Liberty to solidify their backcourt. Adding draft pick Hailey Van Lith and guard Rebecca Allen, TSI is more optimistic than the current market, predicting a likely 19 wins or more.
Bet: Over 18.5 Wins
Connecticut Sun: O/U 10.5 Wins
Last year's fan favorites, the Connecticut Sun, saw a massive roster overhaul, losing their entire starting lineup to free agency and trades. The Sun landed Rachid Meziane as their new head coach, replacing Stephanie White, who now coaches Caitlin Clark in Indiana. With a dismal win total of 10.5, TSI initially projected 13.5 wins but leans towards the over, given new faces and the potential for slight improvement.
Lean: Over 10.5 Wins
Dallas Wings: O/U 19.5 Wins
Intriguing rookie Paige Bueckers will lead Dallas alongside star guard Arike Ogunbowale to form an exciting dynamic duo for sure. However, TSI is cautious of expecting too much from Bueckers as a rookie, built on last season's performance by star rookie Caitlin Clark in Indiana. The Wings saw a minor upgrade with defensive specialist Dijonai Carrington, so a 10+ win improvement from their 9-win season in 2024 seems unlikely according to TSI (projecting 15.5 wins).
Bet: Under 19.5 Wins
Golden State Valkyries (Expansion team): O/U 8.5 Wins
The Golden State Valkyries are an uncertain team to gauge as an expansion franchise. With a roster featuring former Las Vegas guard Kate Martin, WNBA veteran Tiffany Hayes, and selected draftees, it's hard to make accurate predictions. Despite TSI projecting 14.5 wins for Golden State, it's better to steer clear until we see how they take shape.
Advice: Stay Away
Indiana Fever: O/U 31.5 Wins
Last year's heart-warming story, the Indiana Fever, hopes to transition from a feel-good story to a championship contender, now with a new coach (Stephanie White) and fresh talent. Key additions include DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, Sophie Cunningham, Kelsey Mitchell, Sydney Colson, and Jaelyn Brown. TSI projects a more modest 25.8 wins, with a lower-than-expected over/under line (31.5).
Bet: Under 31.5 Wins

📝 Additional Insights:
- TSI projects that the Indiana Fever might be slightly overvalued by the market, with expectations that are too high considering their recent influx of talent. Bettors would likely find better value in under-the-radar picks.
- The Dallas Wings are backed by exciting rookie performer Paige Bueckers, and there's potential for improvement from their lackluster 2024 performance. However, TSI projects a below-market win total due to the challenges often faced by rookies.
- On the other hand, the Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream boast long-term, consistent success with talents like Courtney Vandersloot, Rhyne Howard, Ariel Atkins, Brittney Griner, and Brionna Jones. Their projected win totals are undervalued according to TSI, and betting on both the Sky and Dream's over line seems justifiable.
- The Connecticut Sun have undergone drastic roster changes, losing their entire starting lineup to free agency and trades. TSI projects these moves may lead to a slower start, but there is potential for improvement as the season progresses. Betters should carefully consider whether to bet on the Sun's over/under line based on their expectations for progress.
These projections and oversight reveal valuable insights on betting opportunities for the 2025 WNBA season. Good luck with your bets, and remember to always do your own research and gamble responsibly!
- The odds for over/under win totals in college football and professional sports, such as the WNBA, can offer exciting betting opportunities.
- WNBA teams like the Atlanta Dream and Chicago Sky have solid rosters and are undervalued according to win total projections, making the 'Over' line a potentially profitable bet.
- TShoeIndex projections suggest that the Indiana Fever might be slightly overvalued in the market, and under-the-radar picks could provide better chances for success.
- The Dallas Wings could see improvement with the arrival of exciting rookie Paige Bueckers, but TShoeIndex projects a below-market win total due to the challenges faced by rookies.
- The Connecticut Sun, despite a drastic roster overhaul, present betting opportunities, as there is potential for improvement as the season progresses. However, bettors should carefully consider whether to wager on the Sun's over/under line based on their expectations for the team's progress.
