WNBA Post-Season: SThree Key Game 3 Inquiries for Fever vs. Dream and Storm vs. Aces
The 2025 WNBA playoffs are heating up, with some intriguing matchups on the horizon. On Thursday, the series will continue with Game 3s between the Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm, and the Atlanta Dream and Indiana Fever.
The higher seeds, Las Vegas Aces and Atlanta Dream, will host Game 3 due to the playoff format change to 1-1-1. The Aces, who boasted a regular-season record of 22-12, have been largely successful against lesser teams, going 17-3 against lottery opponents and 13-11 against playoff foes. The Dream, on the other hand, boasted the fourth-best home record with 16 wins, although their offense has struggled in the playoffs, with an 88.1 offensive rating through the first two games.
In the Seattle-Las Vegas series, Rookie center Dominique Malonga has been a standout performer, averaging 11.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks in the series. Malonga finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in 23 minutes in Game 2, helping the Storm complete a 14-point comeback. Malonga has a positive plus-minus in the series and has drawn five fouls resulting in free throws, compared to Magbegor's three.
The Storm have lost starting center Ezi Magbegor's 47 minutes by 23 points. However, Wilson has given the Storm a strong offensive presence, shooting 8 of 14 against Magbegor and 3 of 7 against Malonga in Games 1 and 2. There is a question about whether Malonga should be moved into the Storm's starting lineup for Game 3.
Coach Noelle Quinn of the Seattle Storm has not publicly specified which player she will start in the winner-take-all Game 3 of the first round. Key players mentioned as leaders in the series include Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike, both instrumental in the series so far.
Meanwhile, the Dream are struggling with their leading scorers, Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard, combining for just 59 points on 18 of 58 from the field in the playoffs.
The Dream-Fever series has also been competitive, with the Dream going 17-5 at home this season, tied for the second-best home record in the league. The Fever will look to bounce back after losing the first two games at home.
Game 3 between the Storm and Aces will be on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 9:30 p.m., and can be watched on ESPN2 and fubo. Game 3 between the Fever and Dream will be on the same day at 7:30 p.m., also on ESPN2 and fubo. The WNBA's playoff format change has provided a much-needed jolt of excitement in the first round.
