Atlanta Dream Soar Past Seattle Storm, Extend Winning Streak
The Atlanta Dream continued their impressive form in the WNBA, securing a hard-fought victory against the Seattle Storm on August 22-23, 2025. Rhyne Howard's clutch performance in the third quarter, scoring 25 points and making three 3-pointers, proved to be the decisive factor in the 85-75 win.
Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Aces maintained their playoff push with a 83-77 victory over the New York Liberty. Jewell Loyd came off the bench to score 21 points and five 3-pointers, while Cecilia Zandalasini finished with 20 points, as the Aces extended their winning streak to five games.
As of the latest standings update, the Atlanta Dream sit in second place in the Eastern Conference and roughly third overall in the league, with a record of 23 wins and 13 losses. The Seattle Storm, who came close in the fourth quarter, currently occupy seventh position with a record around 18-18, having won three of their last four games. The Las Vegas Aces are third overall with 23 wins and 14 losses, and the New York Liberty are close behind with approximately 22 wins and 14 losses.
The top eight teams make the playoffs regardless of conference, and as it stands, all four teams mentioned are well-positioned to qualify. The Minnesota Lynx lead the league with 28 wins and 7 losses. The regular season concludes on September 11, with the playoffs set to begin on September 14.
In other games, the Golden State Valkyries achieved a franchise record 15 3-pointers and a 46.7% 3-point percentage in a 92-80 win over the Washington Mystics. Veronica Burton scored a career-high 30 points for the Valkyries, while Tiffany Hayes contributed 14 points. Kiki Iriafen added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Mystics, marking her 10th double-double this season.
Aces' star A'ja Wilson registered 17 points and 16 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season in the team's victory over the New York Liberty. Sonia Citron scored 13 points during a 29-9 fourth-quarter run for the Mystics, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Aces.
With 12 games remaining, the Atlanta Dream have moved past the New York Liberty for second place in the WNBA standings. Howard's late-game heroics in the third quarter, including a banked-in 3-pointer with 3.9 seconds left and a steal leading to another 3-pointer, were crucial in securing their position.
As the WNBA season reaches its climax, these four teams will be eager to secure their playoff spots and potentially challenge for the championship.
