Wittlaer, Düsseldorf hosts compressed gun festival themed "Change is the demand of the future"
Cracking the Code of Wittlaer's Schützenfest in Düsseldorf
Get ready to party in the north of Düsseldorf as some shooting clubs, including the St. Sebastianus Brotherhood Wittlaer, are shaking things up at their festival celebrations. Despite traditional activities still being at the heart of the festivities, there's a brand new twist this year!
Let's dive right in! The town of Wittlaer brought out its banners and flags earlier than usual, festooning the streets ahead of Corpus Christi, kicking off the shooting and homeland festival on the 8th of June.
The youth took center stage on the opening day, with a packed agenda including wreath-laying, a concert, a grand military tattoo, and some good 'ole dancing in the tent.
On Saturday morning, the Wittlaer Drum Corps disrupted the peace in the best way possible, blasting tunes early aboard a tractor and trailer to awaken their comrades. After a heartfelt communal breakfast, the jubilees were honored.
Fast forward to the afternoon, and reigning Majesties – King and Queen Willy and Barbara Hilger, Crown Prince Henning Jungbluth, and Youth Prince Christoph Alexander Gaidies with Adjutant Milo Staykoff – led the parade like the royalty they are. It seems that baby Stefanie, the princess of Crown Prince Henning, couldn't join in the fun this year as they welcomed a new member to the family. The gentlemen in green vests were caught chomping on pacifiers, a subtle show of solidarity with the new parents.

The crowning ceremony took place the following day, after the glorious church service. Michael Germ donned the crown, followed by his queen, Carolin Strank. Tobias Peters claimed the title of Crown Prince, with Hannah Krebber by his side. And the youth shooters crowned Julian Cremer as their new Prince, with his brother Lukas as his Adjutant.
The communal meal in the festival tent is one of the traditions that has remained unchanged, along with the shooting procession and the parade for the new Majesties, but don't be surprised if you find a tractor instead of a carriage pulling your Prince around town next year!
So there you have it, folks! Wittlaer's Schützenfest is a lively blend of tradition and innovation, offering a fun-filled weekend of music, entertainment, and shooting festivities by the Schwarzbach and Rhine rivers.
