Wittenberg Motetten Choir to Perform at Magdeburg Cathedral
The Wittenberg Motet Choir, a regional ensemble of skilled singers, will be performing in Magdeburg's cathedral on September 19 at 7:30 PM. Admission to the concert is free, but donations are welcome.
The performance will feature a mix of eight-part a cappella music, spanning from the Reformation era to the present day. Composers such as Josquin Desprez, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Heinrich Schütz, Johannes Brahms, and Benjamin Britten will be represented.
The ensemble is led by Christoph Hagemann, the cantor of the city church in Wittenberg. Hagemann has been leading the choir since 2021 and was awarded the Geschwister-Mendelssohn-Medal in 2020.
Rehearsals for the choir are conducted on a project basis, allowing them to present challenging choral works in small formations. The choir's name is derived from the word "motet," which has denoted a spiritual song since the Middle Ages.
The Wittenberg Motet Choir's photograph for the event was taken by Matthias Keilholz. The performance is being documented by Isabel Tönniges from Magdeburg Cathedral Music, and Keilholz will also be photographing the event.
This event is being covered by Magdeburg Cathedral Music, ensuring a comprehensive documentation of the performance. Don't miss this unique opportunity to experience the Wittenberg Motet Choir's enchanting harmonies in the historic setting of Magdeburg's cathedral.
