In a historic night at London's Wembley Arena last Wednesday (17th September), Gorillaz marked their 25th anniversary with a spectacular show that brought together over 150 artists and cultural figures. The event, organised by Brian Eno, raised nearly £1.5million for charities helping the people of Gaza.

Highlights of the evening included Gorillaz playing 'Double Bass' and 'Ghost Train' live for the first time ever, as well as performing their self-titled debut album in full. A special moment came when Damon Albarn, alongside Yasiin Bey (FKA Mos Def) and Syrian singer Omar Souleyman, performed a new song called 'Damascus'. This marked the first ever preview of a song that will be featured on Gorillaz's ninth studio album, 'The Mountain'.

'Damascus' is not the only collaboration on the upcoming album. Alongside Damon Albarn, the artists involved in the recording include Ajay Prasanna, Amaan & Ayaan Ali Bangash, and Anoushka Shankar, as well as Sparks, Gruff Rhys, IDLES' Joe Talbot, Johnny Marr, and more.

The London Arab Orchestra also played a significant role in the show, adding a unique touch to the performances. One of the most memorable moments was when Damon Albarn helped break out a medley of Palestinian traditional songs, sparking one of the biggest responses of the night.

Holocaust survivor Stephen Kapos also spoke at the event, emphasising the shared struggle for freedom, justice, and return that he and the Palestinian people face.

The show concluded with Gorillaz announcing a massive UK arena tour for next year. The tour will visit Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Nottingham, Liverpool, Belfast, and London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With 'The Mountain' due out on March 20, 2026, and a successful 25th anniversary show under their belt, Gorillaz are showing no signs of slowing down. The new album will be released on their own KONG label.

In addition to the musical performances, celebrities such as Richard Gere, Nicola Coughlan, and Florence Pugh also made appearances at the show. The event was a testament to the power of music and unity, demonstrating that the arts can make a real difference in the world.
