Winter's Grip on Bavaria: Chilly Temperatures, Snow, and Icy Conditions Ahead
Winter's icy embrace is tightening its grip on Bavaria. The DWD (German Weather Service) forecasts a week chilling with temperatures between 1°C (33.8°F) and 7°C (44.6°F) from the get-go. Higher regions in Franconia and the Upper Palatinate can expect 10 cm (4 inches) of fresh snowfall by Monday, while Lower Franconia and other lowland areas remain dry but may face icy conditions. The edge of the Alps will stay dry during the day, but rainfall looms for nightfall.
On Tuesday, temperatures will hover between -1°C (30.2°F) to 5°C (41°F), with snowfall and clearing in parts of northern Franconia. Meanwhile, the Alps brace for up to 30 cm (12 inches) of snowfall, potentially turning the region icy once again. Northern Bavaria can expect up to 50 cm (20 inches) of snowfall in densely populated mountainous regions like Allgäu Alps.
Sunshine is in store for southern Bavaria on Wednesday, as temperatures maintain a chilly 0°C (32°F) to 5°C (41°F) range. The rest of the state might see overcast skies sprinkled with snow and sleet, with temperatures not straying beyond the 0°C (32°F) mark. Freezing temperatures dip to -5°C (23°F) in the Alpine valleys towards Thursday night and Friday morning.
These frosty conditions are commonplace as winter returns its icy hold on Bavaria. The DWD forecasts 10 cm (4 inches) of fresh snowfall in higher regions on Monday. Snowfall and rain are also expected on Tuesday.
