Winter Storm Triggers Five Crashes as Drivers Ignore Tire Laws
A sudden winter storm in the Stade district caused five weather-related accidents within hours. Police and the ADAC have since reminded drivers that winter tires are legally required on icy, snowy, or frosty roads. Violations can now lead to fines, higher penalties, and even points on a driver’s record.
The first incident took place on Federal Highway 73 between Neukloster and Buxtehude. A truck skidded on black ice, losing control before coming to a stop. Shortly after, an Audi A4 driver—using summer tires—struck a stone wall near the Himmelpforten exit on the same highway.
The accidents highlight the risks of driving without winter tires in freezing conditions. Police and the ADAC continue to urge motorists to check their tires before travelling. Proper winter equipment remains mandatory on affected roads to avoid fines and ensure safety.
