Ems Ferry Ditzum-Petkum Remains Out of Operation - Winter storm halts Ems ferry service through the weekend

The Ems ferry between Ditzum and Petkum will stay out of service on Saturday. Harsh winter weather has forced the suspension of all crossings. The route, normally running multiple times a day, remains closed for safety reasons.

The ferry was halted on Friday morning as a precaution. Strong winds and icy conditions made operations unsafe. Normally, the service shuttles pedestrians, cyclists, motorbikes and up to three cars per trip.

Run by the Landkreis Leer authority, the ferry follows a fixed timetable during its seasonal operation. But with weather conditions still unfavourable, the suspension continues into the weekend. The route connects the fishing village of Ditzum with Petkum across the Ems. Without it, travellers must find alternative ways to cross the river.

No crossings will take place until conditions improve. Passengers are advised to check for updates from the Landkreis Leer authority. The closure affects both locals and visitors relying on the regular service.
