Winter Plant Tour at Solingen's Botanical Garden Offers Rare Greenhouse Access

A winter excursion at the Botanical Garden Solingen Foundation is set for Sunday, February 15. The event invites nature lovers to explore its greenhouses and learn about seasonal plant life. Entry is free, though donations will support the foundation's ongoing projects.

The tour begins at 2:00 PM, with guided walks starting an hour later. Visitors should gather at the barrier-free entrance to the display greenhouses. Among the highlights is a historic tropical greenhouse, recognised as a listed monument.

The greenhouses will display a variety of cold-season plants, including orchids, bromeliads, and succulents. Two key areas—the mother plant greenhouse and the bromeliad house—will be open to the public. Inside, guests can see the Canary Island dwarf banana and the largest publicly accessible bromeliad collection in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The programme also features a visit to the aquarium house. Here, participants will discover the basics of aquarium keeping and observe aquatic ecosystems up close.

The excursion offers a chance to experience winter plant diversity in a unique setting. With no admission fee, the foundation encourages contributions to help fund its conservation efforts. The event runs from 2:00 PM, with guided tours kicking off at 3:00 PM.
