Light in the Dark: Discover Unique Installations - Winter nights in eastern Germany light up with dazzling LED displays and festivals

Winter nights across Saxony, Thuringia, and Saxony-Anhalt are glowing with colourful light displays. From dazzling LED installations to immersive music-and-light shows, dozens of events have opened or are about to begin. Visitors can explore everything from enchanted zoos to illuminated churches, with prices ranging from free entry to ticketed spectacles.

In Saxony, the Sonnenlandpark Lichtenau has been lit up since November 14 with around 50 light sculptures, charging €16.50 for entry. Dresden’s Christmas Garden follows on November 20, running until January 11, with online tickets from €19.90. Meanwhile, Leipzig’s Kunstkraftwerk has been showcasing Traumfabrik since October, offering its lowest adult prices—€18—on Thursdays and Fridays. Nearby, Schloss Wackerbarth in Radebeul shines under Wine & Light until February, with free entry from Monday to Thursday and a €5 fee on weekends.

The festivals run through early 2026, with some lasting until March. Free events like Magdeburg’s city-centre display and Erfurt’s church installation sit alongside ticketed attractions, offering options for all budgets. Organisers have timed the openings to spread out visits, ensuring a steady glow across the region’s winter nights.
